Speedo-cable noise?

I feel like a weenie asking this, but I'm trying to save myself some work by getting info first. As per an earlier posting, I pulled the tank a couple of times to work on vibrations in the speedometer area. The vibrations seem to be solved, but I think I'm hearing a low humming or light "roaring" noise coming from that area. The only thing I can imagine is that it's the speedometer cable rubbing in its sheathing tube. I admit that I didn't pay good attention to how I took it off, so I had to rethread it from speedo to engine and I may have added a bit of an S-curve to the route. Is this a possible problem? Anyone out there have any experience with that? I'm going to pull the tank and try to find a more direct route for the cable, but I thought I'd ask first. Thanks!
